Pupils at two Peterborough schools will enjoy a tasty start to the day next week, thanks to Cambridgeshire farmer Judith Jacobs.
NFU member Judith, from Moor Farm, Newborough is helping schoolchildren “shake up their wake up” during Farmhouse Breakfast Week (22 January to 28 January 2012).
She is heading to St Thomas More Primary School, Peterborough on Tuesday (24 January) and Sacred Heart School, Peterborough on Wednesday (25 January) to cook locally sourced bacon, as well as sausages made to her own recipe.
The events are among hundreds taking place across the country celebrating the most important meal of the day.
Judith, who farms with husband Andrew, said: “As a farmer I want to do all I can to help children find out where their food comes from and Farmhouse Breakfast Week is an excellent way of encouraging links between schools and farms.”
Farmhouse Breakfast Week is an annual campaign that highlights the benefits of eating a balanced, healthy breakfast, while showcasing the tremendous variety of locally-produced breakfast fare.
This year’s Farmhouse Breakfast Week theme is Shake Up Your Wake Up, with organisers stressing that:
• Breakfast eaters tend to be slimmer than breakfast skippers
• Eating breakfast can aid concentration and mental performance
• It provides you with the nutrients and energy needed for an active lifestyle
Karen Levy, from Farmhouse Breakfast Week said: “There are hundreds of events celebrating breakfast all over the country during Farmhouse Breakfast Week, so look out for what’s happening near you.
“From tastings at farmers’ markets and farm shops, to local promotions and school events, there are lots of ways you can join in and discover the benefits of breakfast and why it is the most important meal of the day.”
