NFU East Midlands’ second annual poultry conference will profile a wide range of issues
from poultry diseases and renewable heating, to the political priorities of the day. The free event, at the Olde Barn Hotel, Marston, near Grantham NG32 2HT, on Wednesday 23 November, features industry speakers and producers, all providing valuable business-centred information for both egg and broiler producers.
Conference organiser, NFU’s regional policy adviser Carol Puddephatt, explains: “Our conference will appeal to producers who want a concentrated update on the issues facing the industry, including where we stand on progress on the Welfare of Laying Hens Directive. This thorny issue is causing considerable concern amongst our producers: the NFU view is that other EU countries’ must comply with the regulations from January or face commercial sanctions on their egg exports.
“On more technical and production matters, producers can learn more about identifying poultry diseases with Minster Vets, the wheat and soya markets with ABN and legal issues such as complaints on dust, noise and odour with NFU legal panel solicitors, Wilkin Chapman. The event has attracted top speakers on important issues and will provide an insight for producers into significant business issues.”
Places are still available for producers, please ring Laura Harrison on 01572 824250 or email laura.harrison@nfu.org.uk to book by Friday 18 November. The event runs from 11 am till 4pm on Wednesday 23 November, lunch and refreshments are provided. The conference is sponsored by ABN, Noble Foods and Sunrise Eggs.
