Farmhouse Breakfast Week is an annual campaign run by
HGCA and supported by NFU which has been running since the year 2000. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of the benefits of eating a healthy breakfast and demonstrate the variety of breakfast foods available in the UK. The theme for the campaign is “Shake up your wake up” - make small changes to your morning routine to make sure you have time for breakfast every day!
All stages of the food chain, from farmers to food producers and retailers to consumers are being encouraged to hold events to promote the importance of starting the day with breakfast and to celebrate the wealth of wonderful breakfast produce available around the country. Research into breakfast habits shows that as many as one in four of us skip breakfast, either because we don’t have time, or in the mistaken belief that it will help us lose weight. But by 11am, we’re reaching for the biscuit barrel and snacking to give our bodies the energy and sugar it needs to work, learn or exercise. Eating a balanced breakfast will stop the snacking, raise energy and concentration levels and reduce stress levels, too. So Shake up your wake up and make time for breakfast!
