Children across Yorkshire and the North East still have time to get stuck into an NFU competition which could see one lucky winner walk off with their own £200 miniature farm.
The competition, aimed at budding young countryside reporters, sees the National Farmers’ Union join forces with Britains Farm Toys to offer a range of prizes for children across the country and in different age groups.
To enter, children aged five to 12 simply have to write no more than 200 words about a farm visit they have enjoyed, saying what they did and why it was special.
Richard Ellison, NFU regional director, said: “Thousands of children went with their parents to all manner of farming events across Yorkshire and the North East over the summer. This competition gives them the chance to share their experiences.
“Perhaps they saw cows being milked or crops being harvested. Maybe they tasted some lovely farm produce or had the chance to ride on a tractor and trailer. Whatever they did, we would like to hear from them in return for the chance of winning a great prize.”
The best entry from Yorkshire and the North East will win a miniature farm filled with toys and tractors worth £200. The top report from a five to seven-year-old will also win a bonus prize of a Britains Big Farm radio controlled John Deere tractor.
Craig Varley, Britains marketing director, said: “Summer events are a fantastic way for young and old to learn about various aspects of farming such as where food comes from, wildlife habitats, maintaining the countryside and farming as a business. We’re hoping that the competition will inspire children to really express why farming matters to them.”
