Durham Constabulary are inviting farmers, landowners, equestrian centres and rural small businesses to work together to stop rural crime by getting involved in their local Farmwatch scheme. The scheme has been running for many years with great success but the Police are keen to get even more people involved to help:
• reduce the opportunity for crime and vandalism
• strengthen community spirit
• improve intelligence
• reduce the fear of crime.
To further encourage farmers to take crime prevention seriously, a new leaflet has now been produced focusing on how to tackle rural crime. This has been produced with support from NFU Mutual who are working in partnership with the police. The leaflet can be downloaded
here or multiple copies are available from your local Group Secretary, Darlington Farmers Mart, Bishop Auckland Farmers Mart and Farmway stores across County Durham.
Anyone interested in joining should contact their local Community Liaison Officer on 0345 60 60 365:
Wear and Tees - Dave Sellwood
Sedgefield - Neil Langthorne
Durham - Steven Bell
Chester-le-Street - Susie Blake
