Follow NFU North East on Twitter

The NFU team in the North East has launched a new regional information service on the social networking site Twitter.

Aimed at keeping farmers and growers, decision makers and regional media up to date with the latest news, the service will also provide an insight into the day-to-day work of the NFU – its lobbying activity, campaigning work and media appearances.

To achieve this six professional staff based at Regional Office will be participating - Regional Director Barney Kay plus advisers covering the livestock, dairy, poultry, crops, horticulture, potatoes and sugar beet sectors, as well as the environment and land use, public relations and campaigns.

If you are new to Twitter but would like to give it a try, it is very easy to open a Twitter account:

1.    Log on to www.twitter.com

2.    Fill in the three boxes on the front page - Your name, your email address and create a password then click 'sign up'

3.    On the next page, select a username either from one of the usernames suggested or create your own. This is the name that will appear on any 'tweets' you do and doesn't have to be your name it can be a word or words that describe you - for example 'farmerdunn'. This will generate your Twitter 'address' e.g. '@farmerdunn'

4.    Double check your name, email address, password, and username to make sure all fields are correct.

5.    You may be asked to translate some words that appear on the screen into text. This is simply to prove you're human!

6.    Success! You now have a Twitter account. Follow the directions given to you by "The Twitter Teacher" to follow people that interest you. Some will automatically be suggested to you by Twitter but you can also search for people and subjects in the  search box.

7.    The Twitter help section provides a wealth of information to help you get to grips with the site and make the most of it.

Once you have a Twitter account you can simply search for @NFUnortheast in the search box and then click 'follow'. Alternatively click on the link above to automatically be taken to our profile page.
