06 Sep 2010
Northumbria Police are urging farmers to be vigilant after the recent spate of farm fires in North Northumberland.

Chief Inspector Mick Todd said: "We are working very closely with the fire service to investigate these fires and are doing everything possible to prevent further incidents.

"Extra patrols are operating in the rural and farming areas of North Northumberland. We are monitoring all areas, not matter how rural or isolated. In addition, we are also working closely with the farming community and have measures in place to protect property and offer support and crime prevention advice where required.
