This OPEN meeting of the NFU North West Horticulture & Potatatoes will explore how the challenge of developing a fairer functioning supply chain is common to farmers and growers throughout the world. Featuring:
- Stephen Best - a banana grower from the island of Saint Lucia and member of the Windward Islands Farmers’ Association on his experiences growing & marketing Fairtrade bananas. At a time when supermarkets are engaging in another round of aggressive price cutting, many of the challenges within the supply chain are common to farmers both here and in the Caribbean. It’s also a chance to reflect what, if anything, UK growers can learn from certain aspects of the ‘Fairtrade’ concept.
- PLUS after a decade of NFU campaigning, an independent Grocery Code Adjudicator is nearly a reality. But will it actually ensure retailers play fair with suppliers? NFU Head of Government Affairs, Nick Von Westenholz, will be explaining how we can pressure our politicians to make sure we get a watchdog with teeth.
