Kent NFU members heard who their new county chairman will be this week.
Current Kent NFU chairman Charles Tassell of Ulcombe, near Maidstone, completes his two year term and steps down after the national NFU AGM in February. Charles is well known for educating people about farming, particularly through his involvement in the Why Farming Matters In Kent initiative. He is regularly interviewed by media on farming matters, engages in Twitter and blogs about NFU activities.
Newly elected as Kent NFU chairman is top fruit grower James Smith. James is the managing director of a family business, Loddington Farm Ltd at Maidstone, which supplies major supermarkets. He has also worked in the supply chain for a fresh produce company, liaising with overseas growers and supermarkets. James has previously chaired Paddock Wood and Goudhurst NFU.
