A seven-year-old Kent boy has won a farm after being named winner of a colouring competition organised by the NFU.
Judges decided that budding artist Patrick Brown of Otford, near Sevenoaks, was a clear winner in the Britains/NFU Let’s Talk Farming colouring contest in the South East.
Patrick, a pupil at Otford Primary School, won Britains Big Farm toys worth around £100. His farm-set included a remote controlled Case tractor, a flatbed trailer with silage bales (animal feed), a Land Rover and a livestock trailer complete with Friesian cattle.
Kent NFU chairman Charles Tassell of Ulcombe, near Maidstone presented the prize to Patrick. Mr Tassell said: “For his competition entry, Patrick had coloured in a farming scene beautifully. Competitors were also asked to add other countryside features. Patrick’s entry stood out from all the others because he had really used his imagination. He had added a scarecrow to the picture, along with wildlife, a mole and some ants, and even little details on some potato sacks.”
Patrick had picked up the competition entry form last summer from the NFU’s Food and Farming Roadshow, a travelling educational exhibition that takes the theme Let’s Talk Farming.
Harriet Lampard from Britains Farm Toys said: “All of the entries for 2011 have been absolutely brilliant and really impressive. The children have shown just how much they have learnt about farming. They can now put their learning into practice with their own farms!"
