Outgoing Wiltshire county chairman Minette Batters has been doing her bit to promote British beef as a key member of the NFU's Great British Beef campaign.
Minette (pictured right) features on the campaign website
www.greatbritishbeef.co.uk alongside the actress and TV presenter Lynda Bellingham, famed for her role as the 'OXO mum', and three other 'beef champions' from Ladies in Beef, of which Minette is a co-founder.
"We established Ladies in Beef to tell the story of British Red Tractor beef," said Minette.
"As a mother and a consumer, I really value British beef as part of a healthy, nutritious, balanced diet, and appreciate the vital role livestock production plays in the management of our beautiful countryside. It’s these messages that I want to communicate through this fantastic campaign."
The campaign website has recipe ideas, video cook-alongs, a guide to the best cuts of beef and tips for pairing beef with wine. There's also an opportunity to win £500 worth of Asda shopping vouchers.
"We want shoppers to look for the Red Tractor logo to ensure that their beef meets high standards of food safety and hygiene, animal welfare and environmental protection and the flag gives shoppers the assurance about the country of origin," said Alistair Mackintosh, Chairman of NFU Livestock Board.
"By buying British beef, consumers are helping to support the UK’s rural economy and contributing to a beautiful farmed countryside.”
