In its response to the Environment Agency's consultation on the section of the Water Framework Directive that concerns artificial or heavily modified bodies of water (A/HMBW), the NFU has called for the designations which apply when A/HMBW's are used for land drainage to be preserved, if not extended.
The NFU is concerned that if these designations are changed or removed, essential drainage use could be threatened by the amount of work required to make A/HMBW's comply with the regulations for natural watercourses.
