Farmers can now report deaths of registered cattle using the online Cattle Tracing System (CTS Online) – the interactive website of the British Cattle Movement Service (BCMS). Previously, only the death of unregistered calves could be reported online but BCMS has now added to the reporting functions available to farmers. Reporting online ensures the details of cattle deaths are recorded on the central database quickly and reliably.
Keepers must still complete the details of the death in the passport and return it to BCMS within seven days of the date of death.
There’s is now a 24-hour self service phone option available too – the attached leaflet on the right gives details of this so
Other minor enhancements have also been made to CTS Online in response to feedback from users: the receipt date of information is now shown in the transaction list; and the total number of events recorded is shown on each submission receipt.
BCMS recently changed its postal address for some types of correspondence. You should send passport applications, movement cards and cattle statement returns to BCMS, PO Box 301 Sheffield, S95 1AB, while passports for dead animals, passports for amendment and general correspondence should be sent to BCMS, Curwen Road, Workington, Cumbria, CA14 2DD.
