They are part of a team involving the NFU and other farming organisations working with the Worshipful Company of Farmers at the 801st show, one of the oldest and most popular historic civic pageants in the world.

This year’s entry, in the International Year of Pulses, will see 12 young farmers accompany a PMC pea harvester, supplied by the Green Pea Company, and a Massey Ferguson red tractor, in front of hundreds of thousands of spectators, with millions more watching on BBC television. Both vehicles will be branded to reflect Back British Farming messages.

The Norfolk team has been recruited by Emily Page, an agronomist for Frontier, who also took part in the parade last year.

Emily said: “The Lord Mayor’s Show is a great opportunity to promote food and farming and the costumes will just add to it.

“Last year’s event was a fantastic experience and everyone was overwhelmingly supportive of the farming industry.”

NFU President Meurig Raymond said: “It’s wonderful to be supporting the Worshipful Company of Farmers in the Lord Mayor’s Show for the third year in a row.

“We have a great story to tell so the parade is the perfect platform to celebrate and promote British farming.”

Philip Wynn, Master of the Worshipful Company of Farmers, said: “Despite farming being an ancient industry, the Worshipful Company of Farmers is among the modern companies, having been established in 1952. A prime part of our role is to raise the profile of food and farming among other livery companies and the City of London in general.

“Thanks to industry support we will have a strong presence in the parade this year that is bound to attract interest and highlight the importance of the food and farming industry across the UK.”

Lindsay Haddon, Advertising and Sales Promotion Manager, Massey Ferguson UK and Ireland, added: “We are extremely proud to be able to support not only this event but year-round events, which help increase awareness of the importance of backing British farming and the agricultural industry.”

Andrew Wraith from the Green Pea Company said: “As a grower co-operative producing world class British farm produce, we are delighted to partner with the Worshipful Company of Farmers to promote the importance of food production in the UK.”
