Taking a converted farm trailer into schools, market centres and Manchester were memorable occasions.

However, our nation becomes more and more urbanised as we farmers feed them so well that they no longer need to visit and understand the countryside or how their food is produced.

A typical example of urban misunderstanding was highlighted on the Daily Mail’s website as calves were filmed cramped in hutches. The message at the end of the video was to consume plant based 'milk'.

I cannot condone bad husbandry but as an industry coping with TB, low prices and staffing shortages, it only takes one of these issues to jeopardise your standards. The reporter of this story is known for slagging off farming and would not consider a balanced story.

I posted a picture of my cows lying down in the field on a sunny morning, but I doubt it would receive the 2,000 hits the other video managed to achieve in a couple of hours.

Nowadays, it is so easy for anyone to video or film anyone's daily life and we are vulnerable targets. We have to stand up to this scrutiny and use every opportunity to promote ourselves better, whether it be open days, school visits or posting every positive aspect of our farming industry on social media.

At the same time we need to remind consumers that plant based liquids harm the environment, even if they cannot film the destruction of rain forests in this country. Also, there are no health benefits, possibly the opposite. Furthermore it is less value for money than real dairy milk.

So, despite promoting our industry for over 35 years, I believe more has to be done, and by more of us, to demonstrate our pride in what we do.

Hopefully, we can discuss this subject in more detail at The Royal Cheshire Show or Nantwich Show when we have the perfect opportunity to entertain thousands about the best of Cheshire farming.
