For workers aged 21 to 24 years old the rate will increase by 3.7%, from £6.70 to £6.95 .  Lower rates for younger workers will also increase – the minimum wage for 18-20 year olds will increase to £5.55 per hour and for workers aged below 18 it will increase by 3.4% to £4 per hour. The apprenticeship rate will increase by 3% to £3.40 per hour.

The accommodation offset will increase to £6 per day.

The National Living Wage for workers aged 25 and over remains at £7.20 per hour.

The National Minimum Wage is the minimum pay per hour workers are entitled to by law. Of course businesses can choose to pay more than the minimum rates set out above.

Paying workers correctly and in compliance with the law is crucial. Employers who fail to pay workers at least the correct minimum wage risk being publicly named and shamed, facing a financial penalty and may even be prosecuted.
