Farm vehicles fatal accidents

In an incident in Yorkshire a driver became trapped and was crushed between the rear of a tractor and an implement. The driver was trying to disconnect the implement from the three point linkage on the tractor when the accident occurred.

The full details of this accident are not known but this type of accident is common and can often be prevented by using the safe stop procedure of:

  • Hand brake on
  • Controls in neutral
  • Engine off
  • Key removed

In a second incident which occurred in Scotland a farmer was found dead beside on overturned quad bike.  ATVs often feature in serious and fatal injuries. To use an ATV safely it is essential that:

  • The driver is properly trained
  • The driver wears a helmet
  • The ATV is well maintained and routinely checked
  • Routes are properly planned and hazards identified before the route is ridden.
