Biomass Study Tour

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a very hot topic in the glasshouse sector at the moment with growers looking to switch from gas or oil to biomass for their heating. The financial incentive provided by the RHI looks attractive; yet there are so many hurdles to overcome in the whole process of opting for biomass, that the Horticultural Development Company (HDC) has arranged a two day event to assist growers in choosing the right solution for their own circumstances.

Whether you are unsure about how to fulfil the qualification requirements of the RHI itself, or uncertain about choosing the right combination of installer, boiler, fuel source and handling system, this HDC sponsored event should be a great help in making a fully informed choice.

On the first day attendees will hear from experts about the practical implementation of biomass heating in horticulture, such as the qualifying equipment, the pros and cons of biomass fuel sources and their handling plus much more; covering everything you need to know about successful applications for the RHI. At the end of the afternoon there will be an open forum with the speakers and severalinstallers; this will be a chance for everyone to have their questions answered by industry specialists. The nursery visits on the second day will be an opportunity to see three different approaches to biomass heating first hand and speak to the growers about their experience with biomass and the RHI process so far.

Jon Swain, Senior Engineer from Farm Energy Centre says: “If you’re looking for worthwhile savings on your greenhouse heating but are unsure about the range of choices you’ll be faced with, come to the biomass event and learn how to make the RHI work for you.”
