Test results have confirmed H5N8 Avian Influenza at the premises near Pilling, which is linked to two other sites to have suffered bird flu (details here and here), both also in Lancashire.

The chief veterinary officer Nigel Gibbens said 63,000 birds, including pheasants, partridges and ducks, will be humanely culled and a 3km Protection Zone and a 10km Surveillance Zone have been imposed.

Public Health England advises that the risk to public health from the virus is very low and the Food Standards Agency is clear that bird flu does not pose a food safety risk for UK consumers. Visit our AI Hub for all the latest information.
