He will continue to represent the views of NFU members, together with European farmers at an EU level.

As part of his responsibility within the Copa-Cogeca Working Group, he will represent the views of UK and European farmers and will continue to build the NFU’s relationship with other farming organisations.

Mr Hambly said: “I’m extremely encouraged by the very strong mandate given to me by other European farmers as I have been re-elected as Vice Chairman and I can continue to represent the interests of arable farmers at a European level.

“Farming in the European Union has particular challenges, specifically in terms of the regulatory burden placed on farmers that can leave them disadvantaged to their global competitors and I will work to ensure this is a key issue on the group’s agenda.

“As a sector, the regulation of plant protection products remain a critical issue for NFU members and the registration of active ingredients, like Glyphosate, and their use will remain a priority.

“We will continue to work towards a fully functioning European market that works for farmers by focussing on issues impacting input costs such as nitrogen fertiliser tariffs and antidumping measures that continue to discourage this.”

The interests of UK farmers will remain central to his plans as the country remains in the European Union for the duration of his term.
