Back in August the Russian government introduced the import ban of certain products from the European Union which included milk and milk products. The ban has resulted in disturbances in the market and has created significant price falls.

NFU Chief Dairy Adviser, Siân Davies said: “It’s positive to hear that the Commission and member states have listened to our concerns and acted upon them.

"Putting dairy products into storage now will help bring some stability to the market but we need to be sure that when they are finally released the process is managed so that the impact on the market is reduced.

"Opening intervention early is also good news although we will maintain our call on the Commission, member states and MEPs to review, and increase the current intervention price.”
