FPC document advises growers on best practice requirements for seasonal worker accommodation.

The Fresh Produce Consortium has issued a guidance document covering best practice for caravan accommodation for temporary workers in the UK. The first edition of the guidance has been developed by an industry group, led by the FPC, in consultation with stakeholders. The guidance includes information on legal requirements, and benchmark indicators to encourage good practice across the industry, and to support the health, safety and welfare of temporary workers in the industry. The FPC will be carrying out a formal review of the guidance document at the end of the year to see if there any aspects that need to be developed and to share further good practice.

The NFU responded to the initial consultation and will engage in the formal consultation in the autumn.

The FPC has made clear that the document is guidance and not a legal or statutory standard and will evolve over time. The NFU would encourage members to use the guidance to check and monitor conditions of caravan accommodation and identify any areas for improvement, in working towards the requirements outlined in the document.
