AHDB Retailer Facings

Beef and Lamb Watch_41618

This week AHDB have published their latest beef and lamb watch survey of British retailers. Retailers like Aldi, Budgens, Morrison’s, Co Op, M&S and Sainsbury’s are continuing to demonstrate strong support for quality British beef and lamb, and we have seen great efforts being made by the Co Op, Lidl and M&S for increasing facings of British lamb by 69%, 68% and 29% respectively when comparing Jan 2016 with Jan 2017.

By contrast, we have seen a 30% reduction in British lamb facings at ASDA.

NFU members watch supermarket shelves closely.  They are proud to produce high quality fresh British beef and lamb, and they want to see their product given pride of place on retailers’ shelves.  That’s why many will be concerned about just how variable support for British produce is across retailers.

We know that consumers want to buy more home-grown produce; all British beef and lamb farmers ask is that retailers are clear with consumers about their British offering, and make British product clear on the shelves.  The rest is up to the consumer.
