It’s the second in a series of three events developed by the NFU with Innovation for Agriculture (IfA) and Warwickshire Rural Hub.

Today’s workshop, “Enhancing productivity through targeted breeding and feeding”,is on former NFU Vice President Adam Quinney’s farm at Redditch, Worcesteshire.

Mr Quinney will talk about the use of technology in his beef feedlot enterprise while Eblex will give an overview of work that has looked at data collection and decision making based on this data to track key performance indicators. Delegates will also hear from ABP’s Stuart Roberts about a project that looks at the opportunities for visual image analysis of carcase, and what this presents for farmers.

During the afternoon session, Oxfordshire beef farmer Neil Rowe, who’s been using EID on his cattle for over 8 years, alongside a high tech building and handling facility to improve cattle management, will talk about his own experiences of adopting new technology.

Tim Farrow and Dr Ruth Lawson will then discuss the use of technology to identify subclinical disease based on trials that are taking place on beef finishing units in Yorkshire looking at body temperature as an indicator of disease through an innovative ear tag.

The final event, a conference looking at future technologies for sheep and beef producers, will be held on December 3 at the Arthur Rank Centre, Stoneleigh Park.
