Defra publish rationale behind Higher Risk Areas

Defra have published a summary of rationale behind the proposed approach to the AI Prevention Zone in England after 28 February. This includes a revision of the map which details the Higher Risk Areas.

On their website Defra have stated:

"We monitor any major, notifiable or new and emerging animal disease outbreaks worldwide. When we become aware of a new animal disease outbreak in the UK or another country, we may carry out a preliminary outbreak assessment".

The documents are all available online for anyone to access and include:

  1.  A summary of rationale behind the proposed approach in England after 28 February.
  2.  A series of documents including a more detailed scientific rationale and approach. 
  3.  Revised map of Higher Risk Areas.

The Higher Risk Area map has  been revised following further detailed analysis of the data. Poultry keepers need to find their premise on the interactive map to establish if they are inside or outside of a Higher Risk Area. The interactive map can be found here.
