Regional weather damage update

23 July 2007

Since launching our regional weather damage reports on Friday, the situation has got seriously worse for farmers and growers across the UK.

Particularly hard hit have been Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Worcestershire and a number of other counties.

All farming sectors have been affected by the exceptional rainfall, flooding and severe hailstorms.

Farmers and growers are well used to coping with the vicissitudes of the British weather, but the relentlessness of the rainfall this summer has been quite exceptional, and the damage immense.

Farming charities have rallied round and offered to help farmers in dire circumstances, but helpful though this is they are not currently in a position to offer more than the sums needed to deal with immediate needs. The ARC Addington Fund can offer payments of around £250 per farm business; the RABI may be able to offer rather more.
