NFU Poultry Board Chairman Charles Bourns abstract

Charles rears chickens, tucked away on the southern edge of the Cotswolds. The son of a surgeon, he followed the footsteps of his grandparents into farming. Charles has two children, James and Elizabeth.

Charles entered farming after a successful career in sales and marketing. He played an active part in creating a brand leader in horse feed and was responsible for the introduction and marketing of poultry feed at a leading Farmer Cooperative.

He was elected Chairman of the NFU Poultry Board in November 2003 after five years as Committee Chairman. He is a familiar face at NFU Council and an NFU representative on the Agricultural Wages Board. His work with the NFU over the past 15 years has included membership of Finance and Organisation Committee and Employment and Education Committee.

Charles is Chairman for British Chicken Marketing Ltd, a Board Member for Assured Chicken Production and the Vice-Chairman for the British Egg Industry Council.
