Change in Bluetongue zones

A new Bluetongue Declaration was made at midday today (3 April), the changes are as follows:

- The quadrilateral in Protection Zone 1 has been removed.

- The District of Rushmoor has been added to Protection Zone 1.

This replaces the Declaration of a Protection Zone and a Surveillance Zone which was made on 28 March 2008.

Vaccination plan published

Also today, a Bluetongue vaccination roll out plan has been published by Defra.

Under EU law, vaccination can only be carried out in a Protection Zone. As vaccine starts to be delivered by Intervet, vaccination will commence in the Protection Zone only.

More details of Defra's strategy, alongside indicative prices for the vaccine, can be found on the Defra website.
