Can farming become carbon neutral?

Agriculture is responsible for less than one per cent of Britain’s carbon dioxide emissions, but its contribution to total greenhouse gases is more significant – about 7 per cent, due to nitrous oxide from soils and methane from ruminant livestock. Apart from government policy on climate change, we hear increasingly of consumer pressure for carbon footprinting of the supply chain. How are we performing, and how can we respond to this?
