Staffordshire dairy farmer Bill Madders is conducting an independent review of the livestock movement and ID regulations. The NFU has participated in this process, which will be submitted to Defra, and potentially form the foundation of a new system of controls.
Response of the NFU to Defra's proposal to establish a 'product sustainability body'
Defra are proposing to establish a single body to monitor and regulate the sustainability of products. The NFU has commented on this proposal, calling for the body to address the sustainability of all products consumed in the UK, rather than focusing on UK production. The NFU feel that domestically produced food and energy products are more environmentally sustainable than some imports and non renewable goods.
