Grocery retail market share, latest

Over all consumer spending on groceries grew by 5.3% in the twelve week period ending 15th July 2006, according to ACNielson data. Representing healthy growth in the sector. Respective market share is currently as follows;

  • Tesco - 29.3%
  • Asda - 15.5%
  • Sainsburys - 14.8%
  • Morrisons - 10.7%
  • Total Co-op - 6.4%
  • Somerfield - 4.2%
  • Waitrose - 3.6%

Despite Asda's current position, the data also shows their growth of 3.9% is overshadowed by competitors Sainsbury's 6.8% growth, catching up for the title, UK's second largest grocery retailer.
