She will share the Vice Chair’s role alongside Niels Peter Norring of the Danish Agriculture and Food Council. Liisa Pietola of the Finnish Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners is the current Chair.
Diane said: “Without a doubt, the biggest influences in the development of environmental policy in the UK over the past few years has been Europe. And with a number of upcoming reviews of legislation, such as the Habitats and Birds Directives, or discussions on a range of policies from air quality to water and waste, a good understanding how we can influence the various Brussels-based institutions, such as the Commission and the Parliament, is critically important to us.”
“This is an excellent opportunity for me to dispel some unhelpful myths about modern agriculture, to promote the good environmental work that I know that farmers are doing and also to promote the importance of setting realistic targets that will enable the sector to develop and grow.”
