Roger received the accolade during an awards night held at the House of Lords. The annual awards are given by the farming organisation for outstanding achievement and excellence in membership retention and recruitment.

NFU Regional Director Robert Sheasby said: “Roger not only met his recruitment and income targets for the year but also organised an interesting and varied programme of activities for Saffron Walden branch members.”

As well as meeting local MP Sir Alan Haselhurst, activities during the year ranged from a vineyard visit to branch meetings on topics including farm assurance schemes and the future of crop protection products.

Roger said: “I am honoured to be named regional winner. This was a very proud moment for me but it couldn’t have been achieved without the hard work of all the staff at the Saffron Walden group office.

“I would also like to thank members for all their support over the past membership year.”

NFU County Adviser Hannah Padfield said: “Becoming the most successful group secretary in East Anglia has taken a great deal of hard work and dedication. This award is well deserved.”

The NFU’s East Anglia region covers Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

The awards night was hosted by former NFU President Lord Plumb. Roger is pictured (second left) receiving his award from NFU President Meurig Raymond. Also pictured is NFU Regional Director Robert Sheasby (left), Lord Plumb and NFU Director General Terry Jones.
