Sponsored by Nottinghamshire FWAG and supported by the NFU, the winner of the awards will receive a cheque for £500 and a commemorative trophy.

Organiser and Nottinghamshire FWAG’s environment adviser, Lesley Sharpe, says: “This is Nottinghamshire’s competition for Nottinghamshire’s farmers and over the years there have been some fantastic winners. We want this year’s competition to continue the tradition with as many farmers nominated as possible. If you know of an eligible farm that maintains or creates habitats for wildlife and practises good environmental management in combination with the running a commercial farm business, then let us know.

“Equally, if your farm is eligible and you want it to be considered for the award then please do nominate yourself. Farms and holdings of all types and sizes are eligible to apply, provided the business is run on a commercial basis in Nottinghamshire; we’re looking forward to a good competition this year.

“The awards are an excellent way for farmers to demonstrate how they’re helping farmland birds, mammals and insects and creating habitats on their farms as well as protecting soils, water and showing responsibly uses of manures and fertilisers. We hope that Nottinghamshire’s unsung environmental heroes will step forward to tell the great story of farming for the environment in the county.”

Entries for the awards will close on Thursday 31 May with on-farm judging will take place in early July. Nomination forms can be obtained from Lesley Sharpe, Notts FWAG on 07707 220121, your local NFU office, the NFU’s regional office (01572 824250), and are available here...
