NFU Deputy President Minette Batters is due to give evidence this afternoon to an EFRA Committee Inquiry into future flood prevention.

The inquiry follows the severe flooding this winter, which is estimated to have cost more than £5 billion and disrupted thousands of peoples’ lives and businesses. Record rainfall was recorded in some areas and the consequent floods overwhelmed defences.

Minette appears alongside representatives of the Association of Drainage Authorities, Gloucestershire County Council, the CLA and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust.

Comment: Having seen the inactivity by the EA at first hand in the East Yorkshie area,I do not see any improvement n the current situation until the government change the roles and responsibilities of the EA and focus more on drainage !
