Watch again video: Farm safety firmly back in the spotlight

07 July 2021

The HSE have notified the NFU of two fatal accidents in Lancashire, prompting the county's NFU Farming Ambassadors to call for increased awareness of safety measures as we enter the busy summer months on farm.

On May 7th a person was killed while he was inflating a tractor tyre. The tyre burst causing serious head injuries. And then on 18th June a farmer was found dead next to a tractor with its engine running. The farmer appears to have been crushed under the tractor.

Locally, quad bike accidents are of huge concern and our ambassadors want to do all they can to highlight the dangers.

NFU North West Regional Director David Hall said: "As an industry we really do need to address the simple changes such as helmets, safety clothing and good practice. NFU Lancashire County Adviser Liz Berry held a really informative webinar on this subject last year which we'd urge you to watch again. The meeting starts 5 minutes and 55 seconds into the YouTube video below."
