Approximately 60 NFU members with an interest in cereals attended, enjoying guided tours of more than 40 cereal variety trial plots with NIAB TAG specialists.
NFU Cheshire County Adviser Helen Wainwright, said: “Members again commented on how seeing the different wheat plots last year had influenced the wheat varieties sown this year. It was also beneficial for our members to listen to NFU Combinable Crops Board Chairman Tom Bradshaw who gave an update on the work of the board and also his vision for the board’s future work.”
Other speakers on the evening were Cecilia Pryce, Openfield’s Market Analyst, who gave an update on the current market and factors influencing prices and supply. Rob Cross, current AHDB Warrington Combinable Crops monitor farmer, then gave an update on his monitor farm.
Following the tours and speeches, there was an opportunity to get moisture meters tested and calibrated in return for a £10 donation to RABI.
