Environmental focus group created

Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire Farming Environmental Focus Group_69552

The aim of the group is to improve communications and build better links between the organisations in the area. The partners will share knowledge in the hope that any farmer issues which do arise can be dealt with in a more efficient way.

At the first meeting a number of issues were discussed including the flooding and drainage challenges in the area, the farming rules for water and opportunities to work together on a number of projects.

Commenting after the meeting, NFU North West Environment Adviser Adam Briggs said: “We get quite a number of queries related to environmental issues in Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire and given the size of the organisations it is sometimes difficult to know who to speak to with a view to getting things sorted out.

“The hope is that by establishing this group, which will meet on a regular basis, we can improve the communication between us so, if a member does have an issue, we have a person who we can speak to who can help sort out the issue or at least point us in the right direction.”
