Hampshire NFU members and Hampshire NFU adviser Sandra Nichols updated Immigration Minister Caroline Nokes MP on their concerns around seasonal labour in early February.
Members outlined the vital role of European workers in their businesses and discussed the practicalities of the new global seasonal agricultural workers’ scheme pilot.
Hampshire NFU adviser Sandra Nichols said she felt the Minister had understood the problems that the industry faces. Ms Nichols said: “We had a very constructive meeting with Caroline Nokes, Immigration Minister and MP for Romsey and Southampton North. I was very grateful indeed to our members for providing such excellent examples of how they use seasonal labour and for putting the case so eloquently. The Minister explained the current complications arising from not being able to agree a deal.”
