NFU South East Business Rates Sessions
Last month NFU South East held two days of one to one meetings, exclusively for NFU members to discuss business rating issues with specialist consultants Turner Morum.
We arranged this after hearing from a number of members experiencing problems with adjusting ratings or being subject to unusually extensive investigations.
During the two days we held fourteen individual meetings, covering a wide range of issues from diversification to pack houses and food processing.
The summary note attached below gives an overview of the main issues that came up in the meetings. For example:
- Eligibility for Small Business Rates Relief
- Restrictions on Empty Property Relief
- How Syndicates and Co-Operatives can fall within the Agricultural Exemption; and
- The implications of importing fruit to packhouses
The note is simply a high level summary of the main issues discussed.
In all cases it is advised that business rates should be considered at the planning and budgeting of a project to avoid future cash flow problems.
