VPlough, the UK’s first ever virtual ploughing match, offers a variety of classes to choose from including ploughing and machinery showing. The event, which is sponsored by NFU Mutual, will be judged virtually on a newly revised date of 31 October, with cash prizes for best in class. It is raising money for air ambulance charities and competitors simply state which charity their entry fee goes to.
David Harrison, of NFU Mutual, said: “As an insurer with a long history protecting farms, we’re delighted to be supporting this event which means that farmers across the UK can take part in ploughing matches despite the Covid-19 pandemic – and raise money for their local air ambulance charities.
“Ploughing is one of agriculture’s oldest fundamental skills, and VPlough means that despite the forced cancellation of many ‘live’ events, farmers can demonstrate their skills and keep competitive ploughing alive for future farmers’ benefit.”
