Congratulations to Devon farmer David Chugg, who was the South West regional winner of the 2019 Meurig Raymond Award, which is presented to a member who has gone ‘above and beyond’ the call of duty in their work on behalf of the NFU.
David is Barnstaple group chairman and was nominated for his tireless work on behalf of farmers, including arranging meetings with AHDB chairman Peter Kendall and talking to local MP Peter Heaton-Jones to raise the profile of issues including mid-tier stewardship and the performance of the Rural Payments Agency.
During his chairmanship, speakers at branch dinners have included Neil Parish MP, Minette Batters and Meurig Raymond, which has been appreciated by the members of Barnstaple and Blackmoor Gate branch.
He does all this whilst producing top quality lamb, looking after an arable enterprise and running a contracting business.
The judges said: “David is dedicated to his family, and running a busy farm, so having just started his fourth year in office, his enthusiasm, time and effort is very much valued by us all.”
