About you

The NFU is looking for a Water Resources Specialist to lead our policy work in this area. To be successful in this role you will manage a varied workload within this fast-paced role.  You will need to be an influential individual who has the ability to take charge and show initiative whilst managing your own workload.

You should enjoy working with people and be able to demonstrate a track record of achieving successful outcomes in discussions and negotiations, whilst maintaining good working relationships.

You will be able to understand, synthesise and communicate technical and complex information, sometimes on politically sensitive or emotionally charged issues, and be able to act swiftly, if needed. The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate highly effective communication skills.

In this unique and exciting role, a degree level qualification and a high level of specialist knowledge of agriculture and water resource issues are essential.

About the role

A permanent opportunity for an experienced adviser has arisen to work with the NFU’s Regions Directorate and Policy Directorate on farming’s access to water resources.

In this exciting role, you will protect and further members' interests by developing policies in relation to water resources that are sympathetic to agriculture.

You will be the principal link to and seek to maximise the NFU's influence with UK government departments, statutory agencies and non-governmental organisations, who are involved in water resources policy formulation and implementation.

You will also represent the interests of agriculture in the multi-sector water planning process and, alongside regional colleagues, ensure close working relationships with catchment partnerships and abstractor groups. The role will also involve liaising with Head Office colleagues along with close liaison with key farmer members and NFU Boards.

As a key theme to your work, you will also develop and implement the NFU’s policy and practice on the theme of integrated water management.

Who are we?

The National Farmers’ Union represents the interests of farmers and growers across England and Wales.  Promoting the interests of farmers and growers, we aim to influence decision making at the highest levels to create an environment in which our members can be successful.

Why join our team?

Working for the NFU means that you will become part of our friendly, dedicated working environment.  You will work with a highly motivated team, recognised for their knowledge and expertise and passion about food and farming.  In addition to this we also offer, 25 days annual leave (plus, statutory bank holidays), and an attractive contributory, stakeholder pension scheme.

The NFU is an Equal Opportunities employer and values diversity.

A combination of Office based/Hybrid working will be considered for this role.
