The NFU will support you to develop transferable skills that are aimed at increasing their chances of sustained employment.

About the role

The NFU Communications team comprises a press team, dealing with national media and monitoring coverage of the NFU and British farming, a campaigns team which devises and delivers activities under our Back British Farming campaign to support NFU lobbying and policy priorities, with the aim of influencing and shaping outcomes, an inhouse videographer and social media post, as well as several websites and magazines aimed at communicating with NFU farmer and grower members as well as the public.

In addition, we have an inhouse design team, which creates the materials for our print publications, as well as our campaign materials, and numerous photography shoots and picture editing and research.

This post will support activities across the team; writing content for digital and print, learning what makes a good news piece, how to write for the web, understanding Search Engine Optimisation, and how to publish to our website; supporting the creation of social media content, from sourcing images, learning how to use design software, and understanding the most effective language to use; working alongside the campaigns team to create materials, write content for our supporter newsletter and understand how to engage people using language and persuasion, and shadow people delivering events; supporting the press team by monitoring the media, drafting material and writing case studies to best represent our membership in media work, and where possible joining our inhouse videographer and photographer on farm for shoots.

Someone with an interest in British farming and food, and a passion to communicate its story to an outside audience, utilising their strong written and verbal communication skills, are the key to success in this role.

This role requires a confident team player with a can-do attitude, someone who can work under their own initiative and with an attention to detail as there may be some repetitive work to undertake, while remaining efficient and organised to meet deadlines.

This is a great opportunity to gain valuable skills & knowledge with no requirement of prior experience as full on the job training will be provided along with ongoing support throughout the placement.
