Asian hornet update: Further nest found in New Alresford, Hampshire

A further Asian hornet nest has been found by the National Bee Unit (NBU) in New Alresford, Hampshire following the discovery of two nests in Fowey, Cornwall earlier this month.

The NBU also confirmed sightings of single Asian hornets in Liskeard, Cornwall and Hull, East Yorkshire in September.

The latest nest was destroyed on Tuesday morning and the NBU, with support from local beekeepers, is continuing to search for further nests.

Although the Asian hornet poses no greater risk to human health than a bee, the insect does pose a threat to honey bees.

If you think that you have seen an Asian hornet, you can report it using the iPhone and Android app ‘Asian Hornet Watch’ or by emailing YWxlcnRub25uYXRpdmVAY2VoLmFjLnVrIdentification guides and more information are available.
