The SIS was announced as part of the Agricultural Transition Plan and is expected to provide grant funding for new, covered slurry stores and equipment from 2022/23 to 2024/25.
As the SIS is still in the design phase, there is little further information about it at this stage – however, this does present an opportunity for the NFU to influence it from the outset.
Our paper touches on a range of issues, from scope (types of manure, store and covers to be funded) and timing/duration to funding (type and proportion) and eligibility.
The work drew on expertise from across the NFU - both staff and members - and we will continue to refine our position as Defra releases more information about the scheme.
