Electricity pylon maintenance on private land

Nottinghamshire landscape

The Energy Networks Association have undertaken a review of existing practises with respect to any environmental impact from the refurbishment of electricity towers, typically the repairing of such structures.

The ENA now have a common sector approach that all companies will adopt to ensure that such activates are suitably managed. This policy includes:

  • If the electricity needs to be delaminated first prior to repainting, then site specific risk assessment and methods statements may be additionally used to control any potential environmental risk from the generation, capture and safe removal of paint debris
  • If the work is undertaken on privately owned land then this approach is supplemented by communication and liaison with the landowner and any other affected third parties

The NFU are continuing to work with the ENA on this matter and will keep you informed of any subsequent progress.
