NFU gives EFRA oral evidence on waste

Big Ben, Houses of Parliament_275_206

The oral evidence highlighted the impact waste management has on the agricultural sector. The waste management process can be challenging for many of our members in rural communities, who have a lack of disposal options available due to limited infrastructure and collection services.

Key points included:

  • Improving the availability of facilities and minimising costs for recycling or disposal of waste
  • Utilisation of waste food and biowaste via anaerobic digestion has multiple environmental and economic benefits to the agricultural industry.
  • Fly-tipping and the problems faced by landowners

A video recording of the hearing can be found here.

The NFU submitted written evidence in April 2014.
