Increasing water resilience in the fruit and vegetable sector - can you help?

Potatoes irrigation_42271

The fresh fruit and vegetable sector is becoming more intensive and increasingly reliant on irrigation to deliver the quality and availability demanded by retailers and consumers.

The three year project aims to identify ways of building resilience (from grower to consumer) to current, and future, water-related risks.

Read more about the project here.

One of the project’s case studies focuses on domestic food crop production in south and east England to build understanding around water-related risk with a particular focus on potato, field vegetable and soft fruit production.

The NFU believes that the project could provide a useful insight into future planning on farms and within the sector and is encouraging members to help by completing the project’s online survey.

The survey asks about experiences and perspectives on water use, irrigation efficiency and resilience at the farm and catchment level.

Take the online survey here before 30 April 2018.

The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete and all information will be treated as confidential.
