For many, what precipitation there was came in intense thundery downpours; on 20th July, Norwich Airport recorded 45.8mm in one hour, three-quarters of the ‘normal’ amount for the whole month.
A mean UK temperature of 16.3C was 1.2C up on the the long-term (1981-2010) average, making the month the joint-eighth warmest July on record, tied with 1933.
Nonetheless, this July fell short of the scorcher in 2013, which ranked third in the records with a mean temperature of 17C.
